In 1204 on the hills overlooking the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees a small Cistercian community founded l'Abbaye des Monges. The buildings and church sit peacefully in the heart of the Clape region near Narbonne and a 'stone's throw' from Gruissan beach. Surrounded by woods and garrigue our charming gîte in the grounds of the Abbey has all the ingredients for a wonderful holiday.
ACCOMMODATION The gîte is situated in a separate building at the foot of the Clape hills. It has a pretty private/terrace garden bordered with flowers and trees. The house is on one floor and decorated with a mixture of country antiques and contemporary furniture. The rooms are light, airy and spacious. It has central heating and every 'mod con' and comprises: Sitting/dining room with fireplace . Fully fitted kitchen including dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, oven and electric hob (4). One double bedroom with en-suite bathroom and lavatory. One twin bedroom with en-suite shower, Second twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Separate lavatory Outside: Terrace with garden furniture, Barbecue, Chaise longues, private parking. THE BEACH - GRUISSAN (5KM) The beach: We have easy access to a pretty area of the beach. Gruissan is both village, port and beach. It occupies a privileged position in-between the sea, lakes and mountains. The port is fun with plenty of ambience whilst the beach amazes visitors with its series of XIX century chalets built on pilotis. The port and marina are host to all sorts of boats and every kind of watersport is available: boating, windsurfing, water-skiing, fishing. Gruissan village is charming - fishermen's' houses in pretty colours with pink roofs swirl round the central Château of Barberousse which dates from XII century. There are plenty of shops and restaurants - try sampling a local dish on the edge of the port!
